Research Use of Sonoma County Archives

The Sonoma County Archives are stored at an offsite storage facility. These materials do not circulate but may be requested for onsite use in the reading room at the Sonoma County History & Genealogy Library. All collections from the Sonoma County Archives must be requested at least two weeks in advance to ensure availability.

Finding Resources from the Sonoma County Archives

To request materials, email history@sonomalibrary.org and include the following in the body of your message:

  • Your name (or name of requestor)
  • Preferred date of arrival
  • Collection title/Collection number
  • Box or volume number (or description of item if box or volume is not available)

Exploring Select Digitized Materials from Home

Family Search has digitized selections which are available for browsing:

  • Create a free account
  • After creating account, navigate to Search > Catalog
  • Select Search by Keywords > Search “Sonoma County”
  • Refine your search to Online availability
  • Explore results. Most listed author as “Sonoma County (California)”
