The Sonoma County Library is expanding hours again! Starting November 6, all 12 regional libraries will be open on Sundays from 1 to 5 pm.

“This is another step in making our libraries more accessible to more people,” said Erika Thibault, Interim Library Director for the countywide library system. “Being open seven days a week at most libraries makes it easier for busy families to use their free public library.”

The library is utilizing funds from the voter-approved Measure Y sales tax, to increase services, access, and hours. Expanded hours, a growing collection of resources for all ages, and the modernization of aging library buildings have all been made possible by the sales tax. “We are also working with community partners to launch a capital campaign to augment our tax funds to support a 21st Century library system,” Thibault said.

Currently, the Central Library in downtown Santa Rosa is open Sundays, and serves more than 100 patrons an hour, many of whom have to drive a long way. Soon, a total of 12 regional libraries, from Petaluma to Cloverdale, from Sonoma to Sebastopol, will be open Sunday afternoons as well.

At this time, the small community libraries in Forestville and Occidental are not included in the Sunday expansion, nor is the History & Genealogy Library in Santa Rosa.
