Sonoma County Architectural Drawing Collection
The Sonoma County Architectural Drawing Collection incudes renderings, blueprints and sketches from prominent Sonoma County architects, drawn from the collections of the Sonoma County Library. The Library holds many other examples that will be added to this collection as they are digitized. The collection is part of the Sonoma County Local History & Culture.
The Architects and Builders
While the collection has many renderings by unidentified architects and draftsmen, notable exceptions include:- Brainerd Jones (1869-1945) was a prominent Petaluma architect. Jones designed and built many of the architecturally significant buildings in Petaluma, California, as well as a number of others in Sonoma and Marin counties.
- John Clark Lindsay was born in Scotland in 1852 and immigrated to the United States in 1870. He became a carpenter and after working in various northern California locales and on Vancouver Island, B.C., he moved with his family to Santa Rosa, Calif., where he became a prominent and prolific builder. His first and most notable project was the Fountaingrove Round Barn, later listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Lindsay died in 1927.
- John Clark Lindsay's sons, J ohn J. Lindsay (1888-1968) , James J. Lindsay (1888-1972) and William J. Lindsay (1896-1972) followed in their father's footsteps and built many homes in Santa Rosa.
