Supporting Student Success

Sonoma County Library has everything students need to succeed in school, from preschool to elementary school through college.

Free Access to Resources that Support Education

The Most Important School Supply

Library cards are free for ALL students attending any school in Sonoma County, and students in participating school districts automatically have library accounts via the Student OneCard initiative.

FREE computer use, Internet access, and study spaces

All library locations have computers and Wi-Fi that students can use for FREE with a library card or Student OneCard account, as well as space to study.

FREE homework help

We offer services, programs and resources to help students with homework success—including knowledgeable, helpful staff.

FREE access to local and regional history

The Sonoma County History & Genealogy Library, located in the Annex behind the Central Library in Santa Rosa, is an excellent resource for local and Sonoma County-specific assignments. It houses historical information on Sonoma County and its cities and towns, as well as genealogical and census information.

Student OneCard

Through the Student OneCard initiative, students will be able to use their school ID numbers as library accounts to access resources in support of their education. In spring 2018, the Student OneCard is being piloted with Santa Rosa City Schools, and will be expanding to include other school districts as we refine logistics.  Read more at http://sonomalibrary.org/studentonecard.

For other schools and school districts, we offer tools to host a library card drive at your school, while we are ramping up our ability to offer the Student OneCard service to other school districts.

Support for Teachers and Educators

The Library offers teachers and educators a wide array of special resources and services, in libraries, at schools, and online. We extend access to these resources during the school year through:

Class Visits

  • Arrange for your students to visit a branch of the Sonoma County Library.
  • Library staff can tailor presentations to meet your educational need, from an introductory overview of library services to point-of-need targeted research assistance.
  • Also, it’s a great opportunity to sign students up for regular library cards!
